Comprehensive Exams

Comprehensive Exams for Adults

The first visit to our office consists of a comprehensive exam, x-rays, and possibly a prophylaxis (cleaning).

Dental Exam for Adults

A comprehensive exam consists of a medical history review, oral cancer screening, TMJ evaluation, bite assessment, periodontal evaluation (check gum health), and tooth examination.

X-Rays for Adults

X-rays will be taken. Either a FMX (Full Mouth X-ray) or PANOREX with BWX (Bitewings) will be utilized depending on age of the patient and how many teeth are present. If a patient has had either a FMX or PANOREX within the past year and a readable copy is sent to our office before the comprehensive exam, the doctor may be able to utilize them.

Cleaning for Adults

A prophylaxis (cleaning) may or may not take place the same day as the comprehensive exam. If during the periodontal examination the doctor deems there is a gingival (gum) problem or periodontal (gum) disease, a prophylaxis will not be given the day of the comprehensive exam.

Comprehensive Exams for Children

The first visit to our office consists of a comprehensive exam, xrays, prophylaxis (cleaning) and fluoride application.

Dental Exam for Children

A comprehensive exam consists of a medical history review, bite assessment, periodontal and tooth examination, and oral hygiene and nutritional counseling with parent or guardian.

X-Rays for Children

The age of the patient will determine which x-rays will be taken. Up to age 5 or 6, it may be difficult to take x-rays on such a young child. When the child is able to keep the x-ray sensors in his/her mouth, BWX (Bitewings) will be taken. If the child is 8 years old, a PANOREX will be taken also.

Cleaning for Children

A topical application of fluoride gel will be applied to all teeth following the cleaning.
